Prosperity — 帝旺

TWELVE LIFE STAGES · 十二運星 · DI WANG
帝旺
Prosperity · Korean 제왕 · Di Wang · also “Emperor, Peak”

An emperor at the height of his reign: nothing above him, and the descent already in view.

What Prosperity means

Prosperity is the fifth stage and the top of the cycle. The Chinese name Di Wang means the emperor's flourishing: the picture is a ruler at the height of power, and the stem's energy on this branch is as strong as it gets. Jia 甲 reaches Prosperity on the Rabbit 卯, Bing 丙 and Wu 戊 on the Horse 午, Geng 庚 on the Rooster 酉, Ren 壬 on the Rat 子. Counting backward, Yi 乙 peaks on the Tiger 寅, Ding 丁 and Ji 己 on the Snake 巳, Xin 辛 on the Monkey 申, Gui 癸 on the Pig 亥. Each yang stem's peak is the cardinal branch of its own element.

The light of Prosperity is command. Confidence, initiative, stamina and the will to lead all live here, and people on this stage are difficult to stop once they have decided. The shadow is built into the name. An emperor has no one above him, so no one corrects him; the energy can be stubborn, solitary and blind to the descent that begins the moment the peak is reached. For the yang stems the Prosperity branch is the same branch as the Yang Blade, the sharpest position in the chart, and the two readings reinforce each other: great strength, and a cutting edge that needs a purpose.

Prosperity is where the misreading runs the other way. Everyone knows Death sounds worse than it is; fewer people notice that Prosperity sounds better than it is. A Day Master already strong becomes overwhelming on this branch, and a chart with too much of it tends toward isolation, conflict and burnout rather than fortune. The old texts said as much: the full moon is the beginning of the waning. Read Prosperity as a large quantity of energy and then ask the ordinary questions. Is there Output to express it, Wealth to spend it on, Authority to discipline it? If so the emperor governs well. If not, he mostly gives orders.

Which branch is Prosperity for you

Each Day Master reaches Prosperity on one branch. Find your Day Master; wherever that branch appears in your chart — year, month, day or hour — that pillar is in Prosperity.

Personality when it sits under you

Six day pillars sit on Prosperity: Bing Wu 丙午, Wu Wu 戊午, Ren Zi 壬子, Ding Si 丁巳, Ji Si 己巳 and Gui Hai 癸亥, all pillars in which stem and branch share one element. If yours is one of them, you were built for the front of the room. You decide quickly, hold your ground, and recover from setbacks that would flatten other people. Others follow you, sometimes without quite knowing why. The task is the one every emperor has: listening. Your confidence can read as dismissal, your independence as coldness, and in marriage the spouse seat is occupied by your own strength, which leaves a partner little room. Learn to ask, to delegate and to lose small arguments on purpose. It costs you nothing and buys a great deal.

Prosperity on the month branch places the peak in your working life. Careers with authority suit you, and you will usually take charge of whatever you join, whether the title says so or not. Leadership, competitive fields, running your own operation, physical or high-pressure work: the energy has stamina for all of it. The caution is the same as for the day branch, but public. A Prosperity month can collide with bosses, resist supervision and burn through colleagues, and the middle years often bring a lesson in sharing credit. Readers also note that the month as Rob Wealth for yang stems can mean money that comes fast and leaves fast. Build the structures that hold what you win.

In each pillar

Year branchProsperity on the year branch describes strong roots: a family or early environment with force in it, and a childhood in which you already had to be reckoned with. Some readers see a dominant parent or grandparent. It supports the Day Master from a distance and says little about your own temperament.
Month branchOn the month branch, Prosperity is the energy you bring to society: authority, stamina and a habit of taking charge. Leadership and competitive work suit it. The stage can also mean rivals and shared money, and it needs Output or Authority elsewhere in the chart to give all that force a direction.
Day branchOn the day branch, Prosperity is your constitution and the spouse seat. You are strong-willed and self-reliant, and your strength fills the seat a partner would occupy, so marriage asks for deliberate room-making. This is also the Yang Blade position for yang stems. Powerful, and best handled with humility.
Hour branchOn the hour branch, Prosperity promises energy late in life and children with strong wills of their own. The last chapter does not go quietly: new projects, positions or battles after sixty are typical. Keep something to lead, and be patient with children who resemble you.

In a luck pillar or a year

A luck pillar or year in your Prosperity stage brings the most energy the cycle offers. Ambitions that have waited can move, and you feel equal to more than usual. Two cautions. The peak is where the descent begins, so build now what will last past the season. And a Day Master that is already strong can tip into excess here: quarrels, overwork, going it alone. In 2026, the Horse year, Bing 丙 and Wu 戊 Day Masters are in Prosperity and move to Decline in 2027; a year to act, followed by a year to consolidate.

FAQ

Is Prosperity the best stage to have?

It is the strongest, which is not the same as the best. A weak Day Master welcomes it; a strong one may be overloaded by it. The stages measure quantity of energy, and the chart's balance decides whether more is better. Many happy charts have no Prosperity anywhere.

Prosperity and Yang Blade: are they the same?

For the yang stems, yes, the same branch: the Rabbit for Jia, the Horse for Bing and Wu, the Rooster for Geng, the Rat for Ren. Prosperity names the strength; Yang Blade names its edge. Yin stems have Prosperity without the Blade in this method, since their peak falls on the season-opening branches.

Why does Decline follow so soon after the peak?

Because the cycle is a life, and every life turns. The twelve stages are a circle rather than a ladder, and the emperor's flourishing is by definition the last moment before decline. Readers use that to counsel humility at the top and to remind you that Decline is ripening, not failure.
