About

What is Saju — and how is it different from BaZi?

Saju (사주, "four pillars") converts your birth year, month, day and hour into eight Chinese characters — your palja (팔자). It shares its roots with Chinese BaZi, but Korean Saju grew into its own school: a strong focus on the Day Master as the self, everyday practical use, and precise calendar corrections. The year doesn't change on January 1st or Lunar New Year, but at Ipchun (the "Start of Spring" solar term) — and this calculator computes those term boundaries to the minute.

Everything runs in your browser. Your birth data is never sent to a server.

FAQ

What can I read without a birth time?

Six of your eight characters — including your Day Master, element balance and most Ten Gods — come from the date alone. Only the Hour Pillar is left out, so a date-only reading is still solid.

Why does the time zone matter?

The pillars are anchored to astronomical solar terms, which happen at one absolute moment worldwide. Your local birth time plus its UTC offset tells us where that moment fell in your chart.

Is this the Korean or Chinese system?

Korean. The engine follows the Korean saju convention: solar-term month boundaries, Ipchun year boundary, and the late-night hour rule (야자시).
