The element that controls the Day Master, same polarity

Seven Killings is pressure that forges power: authority, danger, discipline, and courage under threat.

What Seven Killings means

Seven Killings, Qi Sha (七殺) in Chinese, also called Indirect Officer (偏官), and pyeongwan (편관) in Korean, is the stem that controls your Day Master and shares its polarity. The name comes from counting: the attacking stem is the seventh from the Day Master in the cycle of ten, and same-polarity control is blunt rather than courteous, so the classics called it killing. It stands for pressure from outside: enemies, illness, accidents, harsh bosses, war, and the law's fist rather than its pen. But the same texts insist that Seven Killings, once controlled, is the star of generals, judges, and founders, because power that has been tamed is the most valuable thing in a chart. In modern reading it is stress, competition, crisis, and the capacity to act decisively when it counts.

Seven Killings on a visible stem is open pressure: the person faces demanding authorities, dangerous work, or visible rivals, and is known for toughness. Hidden in a branch it is internal pressure, such as anxiety, a punishing conscience, or health that must be managed. In the year pillar it points to a hard early environment, a strict grandparent or community, or a family in a demanding profession. In the month pillar, the seat of career and parents, it forms the Seven Killings structure: a career in power, risk, or enforcement, often with a stern parent; this placement wants Eating God, Resource, or a Rob Wealth blade to make it useful. In the day branch, the spouse palace, it suggests a forceful partner and, in a woman's chart, tradition read it as a lover or a second husband alongside Direct Officer. In the hour pillar it suggests demanding children and a late life that stays in the arena.

The light of Seven Killings is courage and command. People who carry it well are calm in emergencies, decisive, protective, and able to hold authority that others find frightening; surgeons, officers, athletes, and executives often have it. Three classical structures tame it: Eating God restraining the Killings (食神制殺), Killings generating Resource (殺印相生), where pressure becomes learning and status, and the Yang Blade driving the Killings (羊刃駕殺), where a strong self rides the danger. The shadow is being crushed. An uncontrolled Seven Killings on a weak Day Master reads as bullying, chronic stress, accidents, legal trouble, or illness, and as a temper that hurts the person more than anyone else. The task with this star is never to remove it, since it is the source of the chart's power, but to give it a rider.

When Seven Killings is prominent

With two or more Seven Killings stars, or one in the month pillar, the person is intense, disciplined, and quick to take charge. They perform best under pressure and may create pressure when none exists. They have a strong sense of justice, little patience for weakness in themselves, and a directness that can intimidate. Loyalty runs deep; they protect their people fiercely and expect the same in return. They are attracted to difficult tasks and dangerous fields, and they are often more respected than liked. Beneath the armor there is usually a wary, watchful mind that expects the worst and prepares for it.

The costs are anxiety, aggression, and health. A Seven Killings type can be harsh with subordinates and family, can escalate conflicts that a softer touch would have resolved, and can carry stress in the body as insomnia, high blood pressure, or injury. With a weak Day Master the person may instead feel bullied by life, always under someone's thumb. What helps is structural: Resource, in the form of education and mentors, converts pressure into authority; Eating God, in the form of craft and ease, keeps the star in check; and a strong self, from Friend and Rob Wealth, allows the person to wield it. Well managed, these are the people others follow when things go wrong.

Love

Seven Killings loves intensely, protectively, and sometimes jealously. Attraction runs to strong or difficult partners, and relationships can feel like alliances forged under stress. In a woman's chart Seven Killings is traditionally a second husband star or a lover, with Direct Officer as the husband; both prominent was read as complicated affections. Practically, it means attraction to powerful people and a need for a partner who respects her strength. For men it reads as a demanding partner or a marriage tested by outside pressure; clear boundaries help.

Money

Seven Killings does not produce money; it earns through risk, authority, and endurance. Income comes from roles others cannot or will not do: high-responsibility posts, hazardous work, enforcement, competitive fields. Wealth holds when the self is strong and leaks to disputes, fines, or medical costs when it is weak. Because Seven Killings attacks the Day Master and is fed by wealth stars, a chart with heavy wealth and Killings needs protection; insurance, savings, and legal caution are literal remedies here. Steady discipline turns danger pay into assets.

Career

The military, police, security, surgery and emergency medicine, litigation, competitive sport, firefighting, crisis management, and executive roles with real accountability suit Seven Killings. It is the star of those who thrive on command and consequence. Low-stakes jobs bore it, and the person may create conflict to feel alive. With Resource, the same energy goes into administration, the judiciary, or institutional leadership; with Eating God, into skilled work under pressure such as surgery or engineering. Choose work where the danger is real and the rules are clear.

Missing, or too much

No Seven Killings in the chartNo Seven Killings in the chart is common and means the pressure channel is quieter. The person may have less appetite for confrontation and risk, and may lack the reflex to seize command when a situation demands it. If Direct Officer is present, discipline comes through rules and reputation instead. If no officer star appears at all, nothing restrains the Day Master, which reads as freedom or as a lack of structure depending on the rest of the chart; the person then benefits from choosing demanding environments on purpose. Luck cycles bringing Seven Killings arrive as sudden pressure, promotion, or challenge, and are best met with preparation rather than surprise.
Three or moreThree or more Seven Killings stars, or Killings mixed heavily with Direct Officer, make a chart embattled. The classical picture is a Day Master under siege: chronic stress, illness, accidents, trouble with authorities, bullying, and a temper that turns on the self. In a woman's chart tradition read heavy mixed officer stars as turbulent relationships. The remedies are the three taming structures: Eating God to restrain, Resource to convert, or a strong self to ride. What the excess should not meet is more wealth, which feeds it. Practically, such people should protect their health, avoid legal gray zones, and build strong mentors and routines around themselves.

FAQ

Is Seven Killings bad?

It is dangerous rather than bad. Seven Killings is external pressure, and uncontrolled it can mean stress, illness, or conflict. Controlled by Eating God, converted by Resource, or ridden by a strong Day Master, it is the star of authority and courage. Many capable leaders have a prominent Seven Killings; the question is always what tames it.

What does Seven Killings mean for a woman's marriage?

Tradition reads Direct Officer as the husband star and Seven Killings as a lover or second husband, so a prominent Seven Killings was linked to complicated affections or a forceful partner. Practically it means attraction to strong, demanding people and a need for a partner who respects her own strength. It does not predict any specific outcome.

What is the difference between Seven Killings and Direct Officer?

Both control the Day Master. Direct Officer has the opposite polarity and governs politely, through rules, reputation, and responsibility. Seven Killings has the same polarity and governs bluntly, through pressure and force. Direct Officer is the manager; Seven Killings is the general. Charts usually want one of them clearly in charge, not both competing.
