The Korean saju year starts at Ipchun
In Korean saju (the Four Pillars), the year pillar changes at Ipchun, the start of spring — Feb 4, 1989 at about 05:23 Korea time — not at Lunar New Year. A birthday from Feb 4 to Feb 5, 1989 is already 己巳 (Earth Snake) in a saju chart but still a Dragon by Lunar New Year. Why saju starts the year at Ipchun →

The Earth Snake is calm and methodical, the most down-to-earth and dependable of the Snakes. Earth brings steadiness, patience and practical sense.
Snakes say little and notice everything. Their judgment is usually right, and they seldom show their whole hand. Strengths: sharp analysis; the patience to prepare properly; composure and quiet charisma. Watch for: suspicion; holding on to hurt for a long time; secrecy that others misread.
